Adolfo Ovalle is the Director of Coaching and Founder of the La Roca Futbol Club. Originally from Chile, he played all of his youth soccer and the majority of his professional career there. He began his youth competition career at age eleven playing for his school, Colegio San Agustin. At fourteen he began his playing career for Universidad Catolica, one of the most prestigious clubs in Chile and in South America, playing there for the next ten years.

From 1988 to 1990 as a youth player with Universidad Catolica, Adolfo traveled through Europe, playing in the Croix Tournament in France and the Deventer and ADO tournaments in Holland, playing against AJAX (Holland), Stuttgart (Germany), Lutton Town and Ipswich Town (England), Motherwell (Scotland), as well as teams from Vienna, Austria, and other prominent European clubs.

Adolfo made his professional debut at the age of nineteen, playing thirty minutes in the second half of the game as a defensive center midfielder, even though his entire professional career he played Centerback. In 1991 Adolfo was called to the Chilean U23 National Team by Coach Arturo Salah and played for Chile in the Pre-Olympic Games in Paraguay during 1992 prior to the 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games. During that tournament he started every game against Argentina, Uruguay, Ecuador, and Bolivia

Adolfo continued to play for Universidad Catolica until he was twenty-four. From there he played for Santiago Wanderers (1992-1993), Cobresal (1994). In January of 1995 Adolfo came back to play for Universidad Catolica in the Copa Libertadores against the Colombian Teams Millonarios de Bogota and Atletico Nacional de Medellin. While playing for Catolica in Colombia, Adolfo got the attention of Ecuadorian Team Liga Deportiva Universitaria de Quito, and he signed a contract with them for one year. 1995 was the best season Adolfo had in his career. He was awarded “The Best Foreign Player” by the “Circulo de Periodistas del Ecuador, Nucleo de Pichincha” and he was on the “All League Team”. Adolfo remembers Liga de Quito fans and the country of Ecuador as one of the most important experiences he lived in his professional career.

After that year, Adolfo played for the following clubs: Deportes Concepcion (1996) Deportes Temuco (1997), Santiago Morning (1998) and Provincial Osorno (1999).

In January of 2000, Adolfo came to Fort Lauderdale, Florida with his agent. He trained and played friendly games during the Preseason for New England Revolution, coached by Fernando Clavijo, against Chicago Fire. He also played for Dallas Burn coached by Dave Dir, against Kansas City Wizards and San Jose Earthquakes. Oscar Pisano, Dallas Burn Assistant Coach recommended Adolfo to Chris Agnello, Head Coach of the Utah Blitzz and after two conversations over the phone, Adolfo ended up in Utah on April, 5th of 2000 to sign a two year contract with the Utah Blitzz, part of the USL, United Soccer Leagues.

Adolfo played and was the team captain for five years; the team won the western conference all 5 years and the National Championship in 2001 and 2004. Adolfo was awarded as “Defender of the Year” in 2000 and he made the All League Team in 2000 and also in 2002. Adolfo remembers the Utah Blitzz as a wonderful experience in his career and an incredible opportunity to come to the United States and prolong his professional soccer playing career as well as the start of his coaching career. Utah Blitzz will always have a place in his heart.

Adolfo’s Utah coaching career began after his first season with the Utah Blitzz. He was the Head Trainer for the Utah Blitzz Youth Academy, training teams from different clubs in Utah,(Impact, USA, Gators, Magyk and others). Two years later, Cach Agnello, formed the Utah Blitzz FC Youth Club and Adolfo was the Head Trainer. Starting with five teams there were thirty-five teams by the time there was a merger of other independent clubs and the Gators Soccer Club.

After he retired from his professional career, he formed the La Roca Futbol Club on June 1st, 2005. La Roca began with the merger of Advantage Soccer Club that was the number one soccer club in Utah at the time, some Blitzz FC teams, and a few independent teams for a total of thirty teams. Adolfo invited Danny Parkhurst to become the Club President. In 2008, three years after being in the Utah community, there were fifty teams.

Adolfo has coached five teams since the beginning of the club. The of them are already done playing youth (U-18 Girls or Girls 89 and 93 and U-18 Boys or Boys 90), with several of those players playing College Soccer at different levels. Adolfo currently coaches the U18 Boys or Boys 94.La Roca Premier U-15 Boys or Boys 97.

Since 1994, Adolfo has been part of the Utah Olympic Development Program(ODP). He currently is the Head Coach for the Boys 95 ODP Utah. Adolfo is also part of the Region IV Coaching Staff in 2007 and has been the Assistant Coach for the Real Salt Lake U-17 Boys Team since 2007, winners of the Sum Cup (MLS CUP) in 2008.

Adolfo is the proud father of two sons, Fito who plays for the La Roca Premier U-15 Boys Team and Nico who plays for La Roca Premier U-12 Boys Team. Adolfo and his boys reside in Layton and enjoy spending time together and going to the Southern California beaches every summer.
