Will Burton graduated in May 2008 from Woods Cross High School where he was a two-time, First Team All-State defender, and immediately joined the BYU Men's Soccer Team which plays in the USL Premier Development League. Will was an integral part of the BYU team, earning a starting position as a freshman at his favorite position, centerback. The BYU team will have to wait two more years, though, for further contributions from Will as he is leaving January 21, 2009 for a mission in Puebla, Mexico! Will also had opportunities to play at a number of top Division I programs, and came very close to accepting an offer from Air Force, but Will ultimately chose to play close to home at BYU.
Will was captain of the three-time State Cup Champion La Roca Premier team coached by Adolfo Ovalle, a team which was ranked as high as 16th in the nation in 2007 on gotsoccer.com! In all, Adolfo coached Will for six straight years, beginning with his U13 year, winning State Cup in the U16, U17, and U18 years. Will was also captain and starting centerback on the first Real Salt Lake U17 team in 2007, which team took 2nd place in the USL Super Y-League, finishing just one point out of first place!
