La Roca Premier RP Girls under 15 team participated in the Las Vegas Premier tournament March 27th and 28th. They won the championship by going 2-0 in pool play, beating Legends FC out of Cal South 2-1. La Roca then played a team out of Idaho in the semi finals and beat them 3-0. The girls then played PQ Premier out of Cal South for the championship and it was a hard fought game. Both sides created great chances to score, although La Roca controlled the run of play the team went down one goal, La Roca didn't score the equalizer till approx the 50th minute. The game went into PK's where Sydney Stokes dominated in the box. She blocked 3 of the 4 shooters, and Mel Ostler, Natalia Behnken, and Jess Brooksby put their shots into the net. La Roca scored 13 goals and gave up 4 goals during their championship run. Congratulations girls!

The 2010 Presidents Cup proved to be a worthwhile tournament for our U15 and U16 girls’ teams. Both brought home the winning trophy in their age groups. Presidents Cup was played at the Mesquite Sports Complex, a first for UYSA.

U15 Girls Felipe Diaz

The U15 girls team, coached by Felipe Diaz, scored a total of 13 goals during the tournament. In pool play, this team played the St. George Strikers FC winning 3-0 and then Heet FC winning 2-1. In the quarter finals, La Roca saw the Strikers FC team again, beating them 4-0. They saw Team Spirit (St. George) in the semi-finals beating them 2-0. The final match went into overtime against Wasatch Flash. The final outcome was a 2-1 victory for La Roca. Shalee Davis scored in regulation play and Amberlee Schaub scored the winning goal in the second overtime.

U16 Girls David Chevez

The U16 girls team, coached by David Chevez, played Murray Max beating them 5-1. Then they tied Bombers Premier SC (St. George) 0-0. Their third game against Bombers SC Select was a victory for La Roca 2-1. La Roca went to the final against Bombers SC Select beating the 5-1 for the championship trophy. La Roca scored a total of 12 goals to bring home the gold. Both teams will advance to the Regional Presidents Cup in Medford, Oregon June 17-20th. We wish our teams well as they move onto Regionals!

Nomads Champions!

The U-15 boys coached by Pancho Ovalle won the Nomads Thanksgiving tournament this past weekend in San Diego. The team was 5 wins -1 tie -0 losses. They tied Merced Atlas 1-1 and beat Carlsbad Lightning and Slammers FC in pool play. They met Mexicas in the Quarterfinals and won in PK's 5-4. They played the hosts Nomads in the Semifinals and won 2-0. In the Finals they faced the Chula Vista Rangers and again won in a thrilling Shootout where keeper Mitch Koelher saved the first three shots to give La Roca the prestigious title. The boys scored a total of 10 goals and only gave up 3. Congratulations Boys!

Adidas Champs

The La Roca U-10 girls coached by Lyman Houston won the Adidas Cup this past fall. They beat USA White 3-0, USA Blue 4-0, TC Crushers 4-2 in pool play and then defeated TC Crushers again 4-0 in the championship match. Way to go girls.

Sparta Champs

The La Roca Girls U-13 team coached by Pancho Ovalle won the Sparta Cup this past fall. They beat Utah FC and Boise Nationals in pool play, and Infinity in the Semi's then Sparta in the Final 3-2. Great job girls.
