La Roca in Southern Utah

The 2010 Presidents Cup proved to be a worthwhile tournament for our U15 and U16 girls’ teams. Both brought home the winning trophy in their age groups. Presidents Cup was played at the Mesquite Sports Complex, a first for UYSA.

The U15 girls team, coached by Felipe Diaz, scored a total of 13 goals during the tournament. In pool play, this team played the St. George Strikers FC winning 3-0 and then Heet FC winning 2-1. In the quarter finals, La Roca saw the Strikers FC team again, beating them 4-0. They saw Team Spirit (St. George) in the semi-finals beating them 2-0. The final match went into overtime against Wasatch Flash. The final outcome was a 2-1 victory for La Roca. Shalee Davis scored in regulation play and Amberlee Schaub scored the winning goal in the second overtime.

The U16 girls team, coached by David Chevez, played Murray Max beating them 5-1. Then they tied Bombers Premier SC (St. George) 0-0. Their third game against Bombers SC Select was a victory for La Roca 2-1. La Roca went to the final against Bombers SC Select beating the 5-1 for the championship trophy. La Roca scored a total of 12 goals to bring home the gold. Both teams will advance to the Regional Presidents Cup in Medford, Oregon June 17-20th. We wish our teams well as they move onto Regionals!
